Concussion Crisis Growing in Girls Soccer

While the topic of Concussion Risks among athletes is primarily focused on football related issues, girls are not far behind their male counterparts in the “at risk” pool. The number of girls suffering concussions in soccer accounts for the second largest amount of all concussions reported by young athletes, according to the American Journal of Sports Medicine. The entire subject of concussion beyond the sport of football was featured in a recent Rock Center with Brian Williams.

NFHS Enacts Spirit Changes for Safety

Effective with the 2012-13 season, a double twist to a cradle (double down) no longer will be permitted in high school spirit (cheer, dance, drill, pom). This significant risk minimization ruling was one of 19 rules changes approved by the NFHS Spirit Rules Committee this spring. The rules changes were subsequently approved by the NFHS Board of Directors.
